Christmas Sparkle Project

Hi, Beaders!

The presents for our community outreach project were delivered last week and a big "Thank You" goes out to everyone who participated. The excitement shown by the administrator at the battered women's shelter was awesome and I have also received a letter from her thanking everyone for the gifts.

The attached picture shows all of them so you can see how beautiful they looked.

Merry Christmas!

Christmas Party Reminder

Hi, All!

This is a reminder about our Christmas party this Saturday from 1-3 at the Westbank location, 3730 MacArthur Blvd., Agliers.

The gift exchange will be "bring a gift, get a gift", should be bead related and cost about $5.00, Also, if you can bring a dish to share, that will be nice, but is not required.

Here is a follow up concerning our Christmas Sparkle Project. We have a grand total of 30 gifts which I will be bringing to the Battered Women's Shelter as soon as I speak to the administrator tomorrow. The boxes which were made last month look beautiful and the beaded jewelry simply sparkles inside them.

I'm sending out BIG hugs to everyone who participated in this project and hope you feel a warm glow near your heart when you think about the smiles our gifts will bring to these abused families. And here's an extra hug to Vicki for all of her efforts in putting together the pretty paper and related items for the boxes!

Please plan on coming to share the Spirit of the Season this Saturday!

November 27, 2010 Meeting and December Christmas Party

Good Afternoon, Beaders!

We are having our Westbank meeting on Saturday, November 27, beginning at 1 p.m. at Love Lutheran Church, 3730 MacArthur, Algiers. If anyone needs directions, please e-mail me.

Our meeting will be to make origami jewelry boxes for our Christmas Sparkle Project. We have lots of lovely beaded donations and if anyone is still working on any pieces, please feel free to bring them at the meeting to finish them up. It is recommended that you bring a pair of scissors, a ruler and tissue paper to line the boxes. If you have any ribbon in Christmas colors hanging around, you may want to bring some, but it’s not necessary. Vicki said she has plenty of the card stock for the boxes, glue and ribbon.

Here’s a big “THANK YOU” to everyone who has participated in our first community outreach effort. We are going to put lots of smiles on people’s faces at the Battered Women’s Shelter in what could otherwise have been a bleary and sad day.

Our Christmas Party will be held on December 18, same time–same place. Please mark the date on your calendars. And for the astute readers, y’all know how notorious I am with dates, so to answer any head-scratching questions, YES, we are meeting on the third Saturday in December! This is usually the only month we change from our regularly scheduled meetings.

We will exchange a $5.00 bead-related gift and it is “bring a gift, get a gift.” We are also asking everyone to bring either a snack-related food, dessert item or dish to share. I’ll bring soft drinks and paper items. We will also talk about any ideas and/or projects for 2011 and what type of community outreach project we would like to do.

Please plan on coming and enjoying the Holiday Spirit with our beading friends!

Westbank August Project

Hello, Everyone!

It's been a hot summer so far, but our August project will make your wrist sizzle!

We will meet at Love Lutheran Church, 3730 MacArthur, Algiers from 1 to 3 p.m.

Vicki will be our instructor and here is the information:

FREE FORM PEYOTE BRACELET
Approx 2-3 grams each of 10-12 different seeds - use any combination of:
11/0 round seeds, 3-4 mm squares, #1 or #2 bugles, 8/0 hex, 11/0 triangles Embellishment beads: any flat beads, freshwater pearls, crystals, metal spacer beads, pressed glass beads 15/0 round seeds clasp: shank button or toggle clasp or delica beads to make a toggle clasp Nymo D thread is recommended, but whatever your thread of choice is OK #12 needle

Class cost is $12.00

Kits will be available for $10.00

As always, you are welcome to bring your own beads. Also, as always, you don't have to do the project to visit with us and can bring your own UFO to work on.

It is strongly suggested everyone get a watchmakers tin with 12 containers for this project, whether you're bringing your own supplies, or buying a kit. When working with this many different beads, it's much easier to have them in containers. Michael's carries them in the bead supply section.

Vicki will have 10 different themed kits, so there will be a nice selection. Attached is a picture showing the various samples and they are beautiful.

This class is definitely a good beginner's class; however, be prepared to not finish the bracelet in class. There will be additional step-by-step instruction guidelines available if you need more help after the class.
Come on over to join us and have a little fun!

JUNE 26, 2010 PROJECT

THIS CLASS WILL KEEP YOU IN STITCHES--BEADING STITCHES, THAT IS!

We will meet from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, June 26, 2010, at Love Lutheran Church, 3730 MacArthur Blvd., Algiers, and the instructor will be Jean.

It's going to be a combination of beaded spacers which can be used together to form a bracelet or necklace, or used separately in other work. The combination will include peyote tubes, pinwheels, and a variation of a beaded bead. Sorry, there is no picture available.

Material list:

Size 11 seed beads in a variety of main colors and accent colors
Size 12 needles
Beading thread of Fireline

Color choices used in this project were: aqua main color with pale peach accents; brown main color with multi-colored mix accents; and, green with pale peach and cream. I chose colors which would complement each other, but you can also use bold colors, all one color, or any combination you like. Also, if you choose different colors, you will only need a small quantity of each one which will help use up some of those left over beads.

Class cost is $12.00 and kits will not be available unless reserved no later than Wednesday, June 12, 2010. Also, please RSVP, if possible, to let us know you are coming so that we''l have enough instruction copies for everyone.

The Westbank Bead Society has decided to begin a community outreach program and our first one is called Christmas Sparkle. Several beaders have volunteered to participate and this is open to anyone who would like to join in. For more details, keep reading.

A new Yahoo Group and bead group name, Westbank New Orleans Beaders Guild, has been set up primarily to host our community projects, plus a variety of other information, including our regular monthly meeting notices. The link to join is:

http://groups.yahoo.com/groups/Westbank_New_Orleans_Beaders_Guild/

Yeah, I know it's a rather long url, but you can copy and bookmark it for future visits. Once you join, you can also post messages, check the calendar and there is probably a bunch more things that can be done which I haven't discovered yet. So, it will be a fun place to explore and keep in touch with each other. Only members who join will have access to the information and joining is free.

Hope to see y'all at the meeting!
